If I remember correctly, either in the first installment or the 2nd one, the 2 main characters go to a place where someone is burning bodies in the basement [Tony Todd as William Bludworth]. If I remember correctly, that guy is somehow shown to know something about what happens afterwards and thus more than the other people. I may be wrong, though. They did make each movie gorier than the precious one. I still think the first one was better than the other two, as it shows confusion and mystery to the whole thing. Interesting point Ronald.
