Great list hehe.. Yeah some of my blogging projects failed aswell. Worked upto hours on some interesting articles, after releasing them i had a really small amount of visitors and comments.
One of the anxieties I feel, if one would call it an anxiety, is keeping up with the standard of expectations that users have. For example, if I write about a post on how ISPs can make it hard for people to cancel their membership and people respond to such comments, I tend to think a lot about those commentors and how to keep them happy and around and try to think of posts simply for those commentors who may otherwise not be looking for things that I usually write about.

How did you become a mind reader, Ronald? I suffer from most of the symptoms you wrote here about. Also the RSS feed number adds quite a bit to my anxiety, when it goes down or when it doesn't go up despite of another "great" post of mine ;-)

Some very good points here. Negative comments can demoralize bloggers in different situations. One should ignore all personal attacks like you said and focus on the comment and what is being said instead.

Not receiving any comments is also a big trauma for many bloggers who put a lot of effort into their blogs and do not seem to be getting enough comments in return.

It's really interesting what you say about your "controversial" essay on WLTC. Thanks for sharing what you went through. People can sometimes, innocently, tend to get upset over different things they read online [like reading your essay], and online, it is hard to prove a point to someone since it is so easy to disagree with someone without having anything to validate one's claims.

lol @ your "wimp" example.

It is very interesting that you talk about anxiety that commentors feel! Such a topic is usually not covered since many bloggers simply think "me, me, me." Commentors do need to realize that participation is a nice thing and if someone is allowing others offer their comments, it is all right to go ahead and express what is on one's mind. It is a bit easier than speaking in public for the first time, and it helps public speaking tremendously in the long run.

As usual, a well written post Ronald. :) Thanks for sharing it with us.

I am totally with Shawn - I wrote this weeklong series called "The Prophetic Ear" that I put a lot of energy and heart into, and got one response... from a kid wanting me to comment on his blog... so I helped him out.
Anyway, the next week I was looking and found that series linked to by a handful of other blogspots saying that it had really touched them. So all that to say - if what you're writing really moves the heart of even a few people, then it's good, and most of the time we probably won't even know that.

Shawn,

The "little response" posts are depressing. If you're writing something for yourself, it's different. If you're writing something specifically for the audience, then it's a disappointment when the audience doesn't respond.

I can definitely relate to the sidebar thing. I'm in the middle of tweaking my blog as well. Congrats on the new design release.

The most anxiety I feel related to blogging is when I put together a post that I'm hoping will really be one of those sweet, everyone loves type and I lay myself on the line to the readers and then get very little response.

That, and when I tweak something on my theme and all of a sudden the sidebar dissapears...ack!
