Blogging and My Inspiration
When I started this blog just a little over a year ago, I didn’t really have any firm goals in mind. I simply had an opinion and a keyboard. I wrote blindly (still do sometimes for fun) with no particular goal in mind for my blog.
There were many, many times I just wanted to quit. I jokingly told The Reasoner that I think about quitting at least once a day. However, I find that the more I blog, the more drawn I am into it and the likelihood of me quitting diminishes. What’s the reason I keep at it? You.
I am Inspired and Motivated By Conversation
A blog without conversation is a lonely blog indeed. There are some bloggers out there who turn off comments simply because they don’t want their writings affected by what readers might say. But the readers are the other half of the conversation.
If I had never interacted with any of my readers, I wouldn’t have been able to develop many wonderful relationships that give me hope in this near-endless abyss that some call the blogosphere.
If it wasn’t for my readers and the conversations generated, this blog would be a potted plant thrown onto the road waiting to be crushed by the next passing vehicle. Instead, the readers have enabled this blog to start growing some roots and grow. For that, I am extremely thankful.
You Inspire Me
You, my dear reader, are the one that inspires me. You inspire me to keep going. You inspire me to stay opinionated and frank. And you inspire me to keep the conversation alive.

There are two types of bloggers – one who’re happy to write monologues, others need to write dialogues. I’m glad to see that you too need readers to inspire you and keep you blogging.
So, wait. You are a potted plant thrown on the road that is starting to grow some roots waiting to be crushed by the next passing vehicle?
Well, if you didn’t enable comments, you wouldn’t ever have to worry why a post wasn’t being commented on. Heh heh.
Side thought on that point. I don’t think you can make a blanket statement that all bloggers who don’t allow comments “don’t want their writings affected by what readers might say”. Some blogs (like Instapundit) don’t have comments, probably to avoid dealing with undesirable elements (like this). Even without comments for dialogue, there is still email.

There are reasons to turn off comments. Some bloggers simply get too big to manage comments. After a while, it becomes concentrating on spam and trolls rather than writing.
I also didn’t make a blanket statement since I said there are “some bloggers”. Not all bloggers turn off comments for the reason I mentioned.
Oops, my bad for missing the “some”.

I agree with you Ronald. Without conversation with the readers I would quickly lose interest in blogging. Besides, you need the input of others to fully develop content and ideas.
