Life is a Blog - Work Ethic
The Life is a Blog series is a series reflecting on my past year of blogging. The series aims to gather feedback from my readers in order to make improvements to my blog. You can find the rest of the series in the Life is a Blog category.
I am not one to post everyday. If I did, I would go insane. I simply don’t have the time. And if I did write everyday, you would probably be served useless garbage. Shawn Blanc wrote a rather convicting post that reinforces why I feel I don’t have to write everyday. There were times I would post just to post. I try not to do that anymore.
What do you think my blog work ethic is? Would you like to see me post on a more regular schedule? What would you change about the way I publish my blog posts?

Hello there. I am here by way of “Grandma’s” Blog….met her just today doing a Thankful Thursday Meme.
To post daily or not? Interesting question. I have only been blogging for a little more than a year and did not have many expectations or goals. My blog had a purpose..that I knew…and in fact, it had a mission statement. However, within that mission statement were no guidelines for the number of posts per week, month or year!
Still, what I discovered by blogging is that relationships develop and I miss reading and “talking” with other readers if I don’t post regularly. The rhythm seems to be (at this moment) daily posts during the week with weekends off. And with Meme’s like Thankful Thurday, Tackle It Tuesday, Wordless Wednesday and Wrap it up Friday…..there is always a reason to post even if you are experiencing a writers block.
That’s the beauty of having your ‘own’ blog…it’s yours to experiment with. I have found that one’s readership will tell you when posts are not timely.
You have a very interesting blog here. It has been a pleasure chatting!

Hi Diane,
Thank you for stopping by my little spot in the blogosphere. If you look at my date archives, you’ll notice I average about 15-20 posts per month since I stared blogging in April of 06.
I “try” to post 3-4 times a week, but sometimes that doesn’t happen.
Again, thanks for stopping by Diane.

Your work ethic is fine. If you had stated in your blog that you “post every day, all year long”, then I’d think you were slacking off.
Look at it this way: since you don’t necessarily post regularily, you are helping build the addiction of your readers to your blog. Each trip to your blog will be ripe with anticipation, “Will there be a post today?”

Don’t post every day, post when you have something to say. If you take up the habit of updating every day you run the risk of feeling you have to post just to fill your quota… and that, at least for me, would suck since it’s something I do for fun.

SickHabits,
Thanks for weighing in and welcome to my site. Blogging is fine, but it is a high pressure hobby.
