It’s not Guacamole; It’s Guacamole Flavored

Posted by Ronald Huereca

In a rather humorous, but absurd article, a woman is suing Kraft Foods, Inc. because their Guacamole dip doesn’t contain enough avocados.

What is absurd is that Kraft responded and said, “We think customers understand that it isn’t made from avocado. All of the ingredients are listed on the label for consumers to reference.” Continue Reading…

500 Words - Unrealistic Expectations

Posted by Ronald Huereca

Day after day, no matter what situation I am in, I catch myself getting angry or impatient over an unrealistic expectation I have towards something. Perhaps you, too, have unrealistic expectations regarding certain things. Within this post, I will go over the difference between a goal and expectation, as well as talk about situations regarding customer service, and driving. Continue Reading…

Is Forced Change Ever a Good Thing?

Posted by Ronald Huereca

I spent most of last week in Texarkana, Texas spending Thanksgiving with my wife’s family. I didn’t exactly go there to work on anything; I went to have Thanksgiving. Of course, my presence there was a little awkward and nobody knew why I was really there.

Predictably, the arrows were hurled in my direction and I did my best to dodge them. I do have to stop and ponder a bit when someone else tells me I am “broken.” In my eyes, I am as broken as everyone else. I don’t need a therapist, a wife, or anybody for that matter telling me about all of my imperfections. I know some of those imperfections, but others I do not know about. I see the broken part of me as being a side-effect of a sinful nature. I am not perfect. But I also am not broken. Continue Reading…

A Twist on Red Vs. Blue

Posted by Ronald Huereca

My brother and I were talking yesterday about how we grew up and how things have changed. My brother and I grew up in a primarily “brown” neighborhood with a good amount of black people as well. We were definitely outcasts being half-white and half-mexican. We never got in many fights, but never fit in either. In other words, our credibility was a little low due to the color of our skin. Protesting the Funerals of the Bus Crash Victims

Posted by Ronald Huereca

This is almost beyond belief, but the Westboro Baptist Church will be protesting at the funeral of the bus crash victims. You can read about it by clicking the following link: School bus crash victim remembered at funeral.

The fact that this group will be protesting at the funerals because the girls “deserved to die” is beyond appalling.

Update: 11/26/2006

I learned today that Westboro did indeed protest, but the protesters’ view was blocked by two large school city buses. Ah, the irony.

Another Update

Dr. Phat Tony has a video of the protesters. As you can see from the video, the protesters are well hidden.

Is Praying at an Airport Inappropriate Behavior?

Posted by Ronald Huereca

This morning I read a news story that described how six Muslim imams (mosque elders) were kicked off of an airplane because three of the imams had engaged in prayer while still seated at the aircraft terminal. The six were allowed to board the plane, but were soon asked to leave after a passenger passed a note to a flight attendant. The captain of the aircraft, as well as some security workers, asked the six imams to get off the airplane. After the six refused, the police were called.

The police detained the six for questioning, and U.S. Airways refused to allow the six imams back onto any other U.S. Airways’ aircraft. Continue Reading…

The Safety of School Buses is Called Into Question

Posted by Ronald Huereca

My mother messaged me yesterday asking if I had heard about the bus crash in Huntsville. How could I not know? I had four global e-mail sent to me, and my co-workers had Fox News (via IPTV) blasting from their computer speakers. When my co-worker initially told me about the accident, I assumed that a crash of that magnitude would make national news. I was right. Continue Reading…

When the Big Boss Gets You Down

Posted by Ronald Huereca

I hardly ever blog about work just because I’m in a very political environment. I will make an exception with this post, but names will be omitted, and the scenario warped a little.

I was attending a mandatory video teleconference at my company. About an hour into the teleconference, my bladder could take no more. I had to get up and use the restroom. To exit the teleconference, I had to walk through a break-out room just outside of the teleconference room. Within this room was an executive at my company entertaining some senior officials. His assistant immediately approached me and tried to walk me back into the teleconference. Continue Reading…

500 Words - Banning JROTC From High Schools in San Francisco

Posted by Ronald Huereca

According to this Fox News article (San Francisco Values Front and Center), the San Francisco Board of Education voted 4-2 to ban JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) from San Francisco high schools. Why the board would vote to ban this valuable organization is beyond me.

JROTC is far from a hostile organization. In fact, here is a quote from the JROTC website:

The United States Army’s Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, or JROTC, is designed to teach high school students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment, while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline. Its focus is reflected in its mission statement, “To motivate young people to be better citizens.”

Essentially, the San Francisco Board of Education decided to ban a high school club that desires to help high school kids “be better citizens.” Continue Reading…

It Appears We’re in a Do-Loop, Sir

Posted by Ronald Huereca

Non-Programmers: Be warned, as this might go over your head a little.

I’ve been in meeting after meeting where some non-programmer will say, “It appears we’re in a Do-Loop.”

Once someone says something to that effect, I just shake my head and think to myself, “Good luck in getting out of that one.” Continue Reading…

Does Religion Promote Hatred Towards Gays?

Posted by Ronald Huereca

I came across an interesting article on Fox News yesterday that had Elton John saying that organized religion spawns hatred towards the gay community.

Elton John: I think religion has always tried to turn hatred towards gay people

Elton John’s solution is to ban religion completely. Although I can’t relate to his frustration, I can see where he’s coming from. Continue Reading…

Christianity and Fitness - Getting off of the Couch

Posted by Ronald Huereca

When I think back to the reasons I began working out again, it all boils down to convenience. There simply was no reason for me not to work out. I have a workout facility in the same building I work in, and the workout facility is free. However, as convenient it was for me to work out again, I find myself still coming up with excuses not to go. Sometimes I just need a swift kick in the rear to get off my couch and get into the gym. Thank You Veterans

Posted by Ronald Huereca

Picture of my sister Stephanie

Tomorrow — or today, depending on where you are in the world — is Veterans Day in the United States.

I just wanted to say “Thank you” to all the Marines, Navy, Air Force, and Army veterans who have fought in past and current wars defending our freedom. I also wanted to say a special “Thank you” to my sister Stephanie, who is almost finished with her second tour in Iraq.

Words of Wisdom: Refer to Your Notes

Posted by Ronald Huereca

This week I learned a valuable piece of advise: refer to your notes. The example I was given I can’t share, but I will give an alternate example.

A senior executive at a company was being briefed on a new product line. A division manager was briefing the slides when the executive interrupted.

“Bob, I just want to commend you on your briefing slides. They are rather excellent. In fact, they are the best slides I have ever seen.”

The division manager blushed and said, “Thank you.” Continue Reading…

E3 Revisited

Posted by Ronald Huereca

For those of you who have read my E3 and E3 - Part 2 short stories, you’ll know that I was jumped in Fairbanks, Alaska when I was fifteen.

To help out in the credibility department, I have used flickr to add in some notes detailing the actual locations where things took place.

Be warned if you read the stories. There is a lot of language. Take care.

Christianity and Fitness - Introduction

Posted by Ronald Huereca

For the past few months, I have been thinking about starting a series on my blog entitled, “Christianity and Fitness.” As of today, I will begin what will hopefully become a long and flourishing series unleashing the parallels between Christianity and fitness.

What this series hopes to accomplish can be summed up in Ephesians 4:21-24 (NIV):

21Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

As Christians, we all have a physical body and a spiritual body. The Bible tells us to put off our own sinful desires that come from the flesh. Through experience, however, I have found that exercising my physical body has a lot of similarities to exercising my “spiritual” body. This series will go into several comparisons, analogies, and/or similarities that I have discovered while trying to build up my fitness level. Continue Reading…

A Podcast Nightmare

Posted by Ronald Huereca

I should have watched what I ate last night before going to bed. I ended dreaming about leading a Podcast in person with four people: Katers17, Cetroyer, a guy named Shawn Blanc, and myself. Now having Katers17 made the dream a little less nightmarish, but the way the Podcast was conducted was rather embarrassing.

For those of you that don’t know what a Podcast is, a Podcast is essentially a radio broadcast that can be downloaded and listened to on your computer or some other mobile device (i.e., iPod). Continue Reading…

Happy Belated Halloween From Iraq

My sister in Iraq sent me these pictures two days ago, but I was unable to get them from my work e-mail to my personal e-mail until today.  So here you go!  It appears there is a Halloween in Iraq — at least for the Soldiers.  Take care.

PS:  My sister is the cutey on the left.

In Defense of John Kerry

Posted by Ronald Huereca

I’m probably going to burn for this, but I think the criticism over John Kerry’s statement about the troops is being taken wildly out of context. Kerry’s statement went like this:

you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. And if you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.
Fox News

Obviously, the statement drew droves of criticism from republicans, and Senator John McCain asked Kerry for an apology for disrespecting the troops. However, Kerry’s statement comes directly after an insult towards President Bush saying that instead of living in Texas, the President is living in a state of denial. Continue Reading…
