Back to Stratford

Posted by Ronald Huereca

I was in a counseling session when my phone began to vibrate. I set my phone to vibrate so that my counseling session was not interrupted. I looked at the caller and saw that it was my dad. I had a gut feeling that something was wrong with my Mema (grandmother). I didn’t answer, but I did call my dad back after the counseling session. My fears were confirmed. My Mema had entered into surgery and was not expected to make it.

After I got home for the day, I was informed that my Mema had indeed not made it. She had entered into her final struggle for life and did not pull through. She is in heaven with my Pepa(grandfather) now.

I am heading to Stratford to pay my respects for this wonderful lady. I don’t know her as much as I should have, but I’m rather thankful that I got to visit her while she was in relatively good health.

I hope all is well on your (the reader) front. I shall commence blogging when I return this Saturday.

Layout Update

Posted by Ronald Huereca

The past few weeks I have been working on creating/coding my new layout. I thought I’d share an update. I still have a lot of bugs to work out, but here is what I have so far.

This is what the layout looks like in Firefox 1.5 - Don’t get me started on Internet Exploder.

As always, comments are appreciated.

When the Focus is Not On Customers

I had the wonderful privilege of going to Six Flags Over Georgia last weekend. As much as I wished we weren’t rained out in Atlanta, I know that things worked out as best as they could have. Sarah and I got to Atlanta and back safely, and we even got to ride some groovy coasters. During my Six Flags post, I talked about how we ate at a Papa Johns vendor. I wish to elaborate on that experience. Continue Reading…

Six Flags Was a Wash

Posted by Ronald Huereca

We woke up at 3:45am this morning and began our trip to Six Flags Over Georgia. The trip from Huntsville to Atlanta was relatively uneventful and we arrived at Six Flags a little after 10:00am (EST). The first ride we rode was Goliath. Goliath was the main attraction at Six Flags, and it was the one we “had” to ride before we left. I talked Sarah into going for the front. Sarah later looked at the pictures that were taken and she had a look of dread across her face. I had my hands in the air and was screaming, “Wooooo!” Continue Reading…

The Inevitability of Being Expendable

Posted by Ronald Huereca

Without going into too many specifics, I’m about to start a new job function within a couple of weeks. I’m moving out of my office (and building) and going to work somewhere else. As I begin to pack up my cubicle, I can’t help but wonder if anyone is even going to notice I’m gone. I’d like to think that work at the office would stop if I wasn’t there, but I know that is just wishful thinking. Life will go on at my office. I’m expendable.

Not Enough Time…

Posted by Ronald Huereca

Ever since I posted a preview of my new website layout, I’ve been working on the skeleton code to run it. It turns out my layout choice is not an easy one to accomplish (at least not the way I want it). The layout is so complicated (and unique) to implement, I’m attempting to write an A List Apart article to describe how to do it. If A List Apart doesn’t publish it, I’ll probably just publish the article here. I don’t have hardly any technical articles on my blog, but that may change. I’ll probably keep the technical articles off the home page and allow the archives to pick them up.

Cetroyer is finally back in the States. We talked about the future of the Forums. Ever since I upgraded the software back in January (of 06) I’ve been contemplating whether I made the right decision. Participation has died. Not that it’s anybody’s fault, though. I’m just a not big enough draw for an active forum. I’ll keep it around for a while, but you can consider it abandoned. As I launch my new layout, I’ll set the forums to a default skin and use it as a support basis if I start with my technical articles.

This weekend Sarah and I are going to Six Flags! It’s been a while since I’ve been to a Six Flags, but it should be fun. I’ll be sure to write about it when I come back. Don’t expect any blog entries until the end of this week.

I Lose

Posted by Ronald Huereca

I was introduced to a game by my co-worker. The game is simply entitled, “The Game.”

In order to play the game successfully, you must forget that the game even exists. When you remember that you are playing the game, you’ve already lost. In fact, I am losing as I type this. Whenever you think of “The Game”, you must loudly exclaim that you have lost.

Unfortunately, this is one of those “ignorance is bliss” type of games. The sad thing is, you’re probably thinking what a stupid game this is. However, while thinking about how stupid of an idea “The Game” is, you’re losing. You’ve probably gone through most of your life and not “lost.” How sad. Now go on and continue losing. Hopefully you’ll be winning again soon. Just don’t think of yourself as winning, because then you’ll be losing again.

New Potential Layout

Posted by Ronald Huereca

Unless anyone has any very strong objections, this will be the new layout. It’ll be a month or so before I get all the coding and colors done, but it should be worth it. I took Pam’s advise and created something that kind of suits my personality.

I tried experimenting with creating other photo-realistic effects, but to no avail. Nothing was working. You can see my latest attempt if you like.

The layout isn’t perfect since I haven’t ported it over for the web, but this is a rough idea of what the site will look like.
